Strategy & Design for the New Health Paradigm

Helping frontier
science gain traction.

A new paradigm in human health is emerging, but it's not reaching the people who need it most. I bring design thinking to that gap — the strategy, tools, and experiences that help frontier science reach further.

Why Coherence Design

"Extraordinary science doesn't automatically become extraordinary impact. I've watched fields like quantum biology produce findings that could reshape how we understand human health, while the clinicians and patients who need them most have never heard of them. Coherence Design exists to close that gap."

What I offer

Design strategy in service of your work.

The organizations and practitioners advancing the new health paradigm face a particular set of challenges. The science is complex and often misunderstood. The patients who could benefit don't yet know to look. The tools to gather evidence, communicate findings, and scale impact haven't been built yet. That's the work I do, across strategy, design, research infrastructure, and AI, shaped to where you are and what you're building.

Research Translation & Communication

Turning complex findings into narratives, frameworks, and designed knowledge systems that land with practitioners, patients, funders, and the public, without losing the rigor that makes them worth sharing.

Patient Experience Design

Designing what it actually feels like to engage with emerging science as a patient, from clinical onboarding to patient-facing tools to the full arc of care in a new paradigm. Built from the inside out.

Strategy & Positioning

Understanding where a field is, where it's going, and where your work fits within it. Audience definition, market intelligence, and roadmapping for organizations and practitioners operating at the frontier.

AI & Workflow Innovation

Mapping workflows to identify inefficiencies and opportunities, then building the AI-assisted tools to address them — from gen AI agent development and orchestration to research synthesis, knowledge management, and custom applications.

Practice-Based Research Design

Designing the systems, patient tracking tools, and data collection infrastructure that bridge clinical practice and rigorous research, so that what happens in the real world becomes evidence.

Innovation Facilitation

Structured sessions that help interdisciplinary teams surface novel ideas, identify unmet needs, and move from insight to action, designed for people who think differently and need a process that keeps up.

About

Design strategist.
Healthcare veteran.
AI builder.
Field researcher.

I'm Haley Mittelstaedt, a design strategist with more than a decade of experience at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and emerging science. As Director of Product Design at Tempus AI, I lead product design, UX research, and AI platform development, designing the technical systems that power precision medicine at scale. Before that, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, I designed software for patients, physicians, and translational researchers navigating some of the most complex experiences in medicine.

I build AI tools, run UX research programs, facilitate innovation workshops, and design the infrastructure that helps organizations and practitioners operate at the frontier. I also engage with the science itself, following the research, attending the forums, and bringing that firsthand fluency into every engagement.

Fields like quantum biology sit at the edge of what medicine is willing to consider, and that's precisely where I want to work. Coherence Design is how I bring everything I know to the people advancing the new health paradigm.

Let's build something

If your work sits at the frontier of human health, I'd like to hear about it.

Whether you're a researcher navigating the gap between discovery and reach, a practitioner building something new for patients, or an institution designing the infrastructure this field still needs, I'm interested in the conversation. The work looks different every time. That's what I find interesting about it.
